I had this trimmer for a couple years,I Just don't like trying start those gas ones ,you know pull a million times on a foot long string that has the grunt sound and almost starts and stalls,so anyway after my weed eater brand electric smoked out I asked for 1 of theses as a Fathers Day gift and tried it out.It Is good for carrying around and not having to drag out the cords , but you learn that any thick spots such as down the edge of a driveway or you know when the grass tries to grow over the sidewalk and you try get cut it back? well those really wear out this trimmer,it good for light trimming mailboxes and on the sides of the house .but it starts loosing power quick and when trimming you need that high rpm that can really get through some thick spots .this trimmer lacks that so I had to get another corded trimmer which is a monster compared to this trimmer
Also it is heavy at the top , but for ease of use it is good for small jobs ,but don't think this is like a gas powered or a corded trimmer
it simply is not

REVIEW:The advantages of a cordless electric trimmer are obvious: it's quieter than gas (and smells better); there's no cord to trip over; you can take it anywhere without having to worry about whether there's a socket nearby. Before you take the plunge, however, you should consider the downsides. First, a 12-volt battery can only provide so much power-you wouldn't want to use this trimmer for clearing an overgrown lot. Second, batteries have to be recharged; if you expect to do more than a half-an-hour's trimming at a time, you may run out of juice before the job's done. In short, this is the trimmer to buy if you think you'll be doing light to medium trimming jobs that take no more than 45 minutes to complete.
If your job meets these criteria, Troy Bilt's TB55B is really a pleasure to use. The straight shaft makes it easy to reach under shrubs and bushes, and the adjustable D-handle lets you use the unit left- or right-handed with equal comfort. At 12 volts, this trimmer will handle all but the thickest, wettest grass. Like most trimmers, this one features a bump-head release for easy, quick line feed on the fly.
The trimmer comes with the 12-volt battery and charger included. Make sure to follow the instructions for recharging in order to get the maximum life out of your battery. Two-year limited warranty.--Josh Dettweiler

I'll preface my comments by stating this item will no doubt survive a nuclear holocaust - a claim I am unlikely to make for myself. That being said, the overall quality of this item is a bit shoddy. The spot welds used to attach the tines to the main support rod lack any subtlety, and appear to have been performed by a drug-addled youth.
This tool will last, but is doesn't cut the grade compared to the larger tools in this product line, or even the hand trowel and hand fork offered by Brook and Hunter.

It is very handy with the telescoping handle as I am very short. If the ground isn't extremely dry it will do a decent job, but if the ground is very dry it doesn't penetrate as well. For the job it is designed to do, it does ok.

Bought this attachment for my Mantis and it works great. The problem is with Amazon. I bought it for around ninety dollars, then the price dropped to under sixty dollars. Up until their unpublicized policy change in September, you could request the difference in price credited back to you if the purchase was less than 30 days before price drop. I guess I bought mine after the deadline, as I requested a credit for the price difference and was denied stating their new policy. Since I now have no recourse if a better price is advertised,I have been more hesitant buying products from Amazon since the policy change.

Like all Tanaka products, this is an extremely well made product (made in Japan). Installation on my Tanaka 2311 trimmer took all of 10 minutes. Cultivator digs and turns soil effortlessly! Garden Weasel - 90204 Garden Weasel

I bought this thinking it would be great for my garden, but the rotating blades are not sharp at all and it barely pulls up any of the weeds. I wouldn't get this if your trying to keep the weeds down in your garden, better to use a hoe. It might be ok for prepping the soil before planting, making some rows with two blades on the outside, or keep weeded soil around your garden turned up. But, for removing weeds it kind of rolls right over them and you keep having to go over the same spot many many times and still not a good result.

Hound Dog Products Planting Auger #HDP9-6
I couldn't believe I wouldn't get some usefulness from my newly purchased Hound Dog auger, as the areas i wished to plant are recently tilled and planted (I am putting in end-of-summer replacement color), and found this auger stalled out before cutting through hair-fine roots near the surface. Arrrrgh. The wrenching of my wrist when the auger froze my 18v drill was worse then if I had dug the hole by hand. I tried different speeds, and practiced in different soils around the garden to no good effect. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ITEM!!!!! I wish I'd read the previous review before my purchase, and can only OSH will reimburse me when they see the length of the register tape upon which this item was purchasedl

Earthway 1001-B Precision Garden Seeder with 6 Seed Plates Review

Earthway 1001-B Precision Garden Seeder with 6 Seed Plates
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While this is a good tool on the whole -- and not too expensive either -- it still isn't for every gardener nor for every purpose in the garden. To remove all doubt, perhaps it should not go without saying that this is not a tool for making hills for melons, squash, or zukes. It will not help you with transplants such as tomatoes, nor will it handle seed potatoes. No, this seeder is for rows of things like beans and corn, and in these cases it shines. I still think, however, that you have to be planting a pretty big garden to make it worth your time to set-up the Earthway seeder, learn to use it, store it, and maintain it.
On the pro side, for instance, I used my new Earthway seeder to plant more than 700 row-feet of popcorn. Wow! The Earthway seeder practically paid for itself that day, since it allowed me to plant the entire plot in less than 45 minutes and with no bending over! I also used it to plant plots of field corn, beans, and beets.
Here are my notes, for what they're worth:
1.) Have freshly tilled, fine, debris-free soil. It is difficult to push the seeder through crusted soil or anything with too many lumps in it, and you won't get those perfectly straight rows if you're struggling just to move forward. Also, too much surface trash will be a problem for the little chain that drags behind and covers the seed. Hint: do "dry runs" with the seeder at the proper depth, but without seed in the bin. This will give you a sense of how well it's going to work before you commit your seed, and it helps to mark your rows in advance too.
2.) Have enough seed, and watch the seed plate closely as it turns. If the seed bin gets low, the pockets in the seed plates will often fail to scoop up the seeds in a regular fashion. You'll end up with a lot of skips. Of course, if you're not buying your seed at least ¼ pound at a time, I'm not sure why you'd want this tool anyhow.
3.) Select your seed plate carefully, and if needed test it with the seed before use. (Attach a plastic bag under the seeder or something.) For example, I had a limited quantity of small soup beans. I popped in the bean plate and made two rows. Before the end of the second row, however, I was out of seed, which should not have been the case. I didn't figure this out till after the seeds sprouted: that seed plate scooped up those small beans two at a time and double-planted the first row, leaving insufficient seed for the second row.
4.) If you are considering the Fert-A-Ply attachment for the seeder, re-think that. I did not realize till the attachment arrived that I could not use it at the same time as I planted -- meaning that it took re-configuring the seeder and another full set of passes to apply an amendment to my rows. Also, the construction and the few moving parts of the attachment are extremely chintzy. I could not get mine adjusted well and used quite a bit more expensive material than I intended.
5.) The assumption for the Earthway seeder is that your seed is dry. If you like to soak your seeds before planting, or if you want to wet-innoculate things like green beans before planting, I don't think this is the tool for those cases.
6.) I have not tried the seeder with pelleted seeds of any kind, but I bet it would work well for that. Again, pick your seed plate carefully.
7.) Of course, straight rows are an advantage for mechanized cultivation equipment in your garden or even for zipping through the rows with a wheel hoe or high-wheel cultivator. Even if you're not obsessive about straight rows, however, this seeder still can be a time- and back-saver.
I hope this helps you to make a more informed choice.

The Earthway Precision garden seeder provides a more efficient way to seed large vegetable gardens and flower beds The seeder comes with six standard seed plates for seeding sweet corn, bean, peas, carrots, beets, and radishes: install the appropriate plate, and it will automatically space seeds at the ideal length. It also opens, closes, and packs the soil, and even marks the next row ahead of time. The seeder is made from tough, weather-resistant materials for years of trouble-free operation. Assembly is required. Additional seed plates are available for purchase separately.

Fiskars 7977 Composite Cultivator Review

Fiskars 7977 Composite Cultivator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Lots of folks gripe about these great Fiskar composite garden hand tools.
Such people obviously do not garden.
This is the best at what it does: hand cultivation and weeding of your prepared garden beds.
It is not dynamite. It is not a crow bar. It will not extract boulders from your granite stone New England field.
It weeds and cultivates and aerates with minimum of damage your prepared and composted vegetable and flower garden.
The best. Better than metal. Less damage to all involved, including the plants.
Sure, maybe you can find one cheaper at your city's big box shop.
It won't be the fine Fiskar brand name. And you'll waste your own fuel instead of the USPS's gas.
Best tool. All right price. Best at what it does.
Okay. I admit it. It won't plow your lower 40.
But it is not designed to.
Fiskar Garden cultivator, dude. Not John Deere's combine.
Get one.
Not a gardener?
Also a great backscratcher for those hard to reach spots.

A bit too long, if you ask me. It's a bit tougher to get a lot of torque at the tips. However, I'm a strapping young fellow ;) and have no trouble with it. If you're not, you might consider another tool.
Otherwise, this tool is awesome. It's well made, a steal at $12, great handle, nice metal and offset prongs.

I like the looks of this tool. It's comfortable, and the handle lets you get a lot of leverage. It's nice in loose garden soil, but it's not sturdy enough for compacted soil. I bent mine soon after I started using it on the dandelions in my lawn.
UPDATE: I made use of the warranty and got a new one. I've been more careful with it and it's performing well. I'd give it a couple more stars now, but I can't seem to change that part of my review.

The Rumford Gardener Garden Pro Cultivator GPT1001 Review

The Rumford Gardener Garden Pro Cultivator GPT1001
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're in the market for good quality small garden tools I would highly recommend The Rumford Gardener large trowel, transplanting trowel, and the cultivator. I purchased them many many years ago. They're solid die cast aluminum and they're cast in one solid piece with a rubberized handle coating. They're tough as nails and strong as an ox yet light enough to use for a long period of time. In my rocky tough soil they keep on going where a lesser trowel would have been bent long long ago. I also find them quite comfortable to use.
The garden trowel is very handy for digging holes for just about anything. If you're planting lots of bulbs in individual hole or small transplants from cell packs the transplanting tool is very narrow and perfect for this, it also has markings every inch so you know how deep to dig the hole. The cultivating fork is very nice for working up the top of the soil for seed planting or for working compost and fertilizer in around your plants.
