(More customer reviews)This is a great book about a small triangular block in Seattle's Pioneer Square that seem to be a magnet for misdealing, dishonesty, financial failure, and bad luck. Through the lens of multiple real estate scams and star-crossed business deals, Sidney Andrews manages to tell a totally unique story of Seattle that connects the historical dots that include the native Americans, Seattle's (not so) esteemed founding fathers, prohibition, various anti-immigration movements, Japanese Americans and their internment during WWII, an aborted attempt to build a modern monorail in a town that has resisted mass transit for generations, and the fate of one of the ugliest buildings in the western hemisphere. Andrews is a thorough researcher and a winning storyteller.
