Very unusual book - can't say that I've ever seen one like it.
Lots of ideas for piloting and navigating without the need for expensive equipment. Show you how to make a number of traditional navigation instruments and some very unusual ones accompanied by amusing tales and experiences. Anyone who enjoys sailing and navigation will love it.

In The Lo-Tech Navigator, author Tony Crowley demonstrates that one can build simple but effective navigation tools from inexpensive materials readily available. He outlines dozens of ingenious projects in detail, ranging from a working compass made out of a bucket and a plastic ball, to the use of an empty cassette case as a functioning sextant, and measuring 6 degree angles using a Kamal, a simple string and board used by Arabs to cross the Indian Ocean. Combining a little ingenuity with deep seafaring knowledge, Crowley's suggestions will help sailors cultivate their understanding of navigational tools in use today. Scattered among the projects is a collection of seafaring tales, puzzles, poetry, and nautical mysteries, all of which enhance the text with adventure and whimsy.
